A countdown timer answers a different question from a kitchen timer. You are not measuring twenty minutes from now; you are watching a fixed point approach — a launch, a deadline, an exam, a flight, a birthday. Pick the date and time and the tool shows days, hours, minutes and seconds remaining, recalculated against your device clock so it stays correct across a reload, a time-zone change or a week in a background tab.

The target is interpreted in your own time zone, which is what people expect from a countdown to a local event. Give it a name and the name appears on the page and in the tab title, so a pinned countdown is identifiable at a glance.

The remaining time is shown in whole days, hours, minutes and seconds, with the units falling away as they reach zero, so a countdown that is four months out reads cleanly and one that is four minutes out reads precisely. Numbers are set in tabular figures at a fixed width, so the layout does not shift as digits change.

Alongside the numbers, a single curved line carries a marker that collapses toward the endpoint. It is deliberately quiet: one moving point rather than a blinking display, and it respects a reduced-motion preference by holding still. When the target passes, the countdown stops at zero and says so rather than silently counting up.

The target date and the title are both carried in the URL, so a countdown is shareable by copying the address. Anyone who opens the link sees the same endpoint, rendered in their own locale and time zone. Nothing is stored on a server to make that work — the link itself is the entire record.

The countdown timer is free with no account. Your most recent countdown is kept in your browser's local storage so the page reopens on it. For counting a duration down from now, use the online timer; for measuring elapsed time, use the stopwatch.
