Setting an alarm in a browser tab
Type the time you want, in either the twelve-hour or the twenty-four-hour form, and the page works out whether you mean today or tomorrow: a time that has already gone by is read as tomorrow. Give the alarm a label and it appears on the page and in the tab title, so a pinned tab tells you what it is for without being opened.
The alarm time is stored in your browser and the page reopens on it, so a reload does not lose an alarm you set an hour ago. Nothing is uploaded, there is no account and no email address is asked for. The ring time is compared against your device clock whenever the page can run. A background tab may be throttled or frozen, delaying the sound until the page resumes.
What a browser alarm can and cannot do
This is the part most pages leave out. An alarm clock online lives inside a browser tab, and a tab that has been closed runs nothing at all. If you close the tab, quit the browser or restart the machine, the alarm will not sound. A background tab can be delayed or frozen, even when it remains open.
The device also has to be awake. A laptop that suspends and a phone that locks and goes to sleep both stop running the page, and the alarm arrives late or not at all when the machine wakes up. A browser page cannot wake a sleeping device. An installed Tauvio app has the same limit: installation gives you a cleaner display and offline access, not operating-system alarm privileges. If you must wake at an exact time, use your phone's alarm app as a backup.
Sound has one more condition: browsers will not play audio on a page nobody has interacted with. Setting the alarm counts as that interaction, which is why the test sound button is there — press it once and you know the tab is allowed to make noise. A system notification can be shown as well if you grant permission, but it is created only when the page runs at the alarm time; it cannot wake a closed page.
Sound, snooze, and when a timer is the better tool
Default tones are synthesized locally in your browser. The optional environment chime downloads a small audio file only when selected; a synthesized tone is available if the file cannot load.
When the alarm rings you can stop it or snooze it, and the readout stays on screen with the label you gave it so it is obvious which alarm went off. Presets cover the times people set most often. An alarm is the right tool when you are aiming at a clock time; when you want a fixed length of time from now, the online timer counts that down and chimes at the end, and for a date rather than a time today the countdown timer is the one to use.
Questions and answers
Will the alarm go off if I switch to another tab?
It may, but a background tab can be throttled or frozen even when the device is awake. For the most reliable web experience, keep the alarm visible in bedside mode and test its sound. Use your device alarm when you need a guaranteed wake-up.
Will the alarm work if I close the browser or the device sleeps?
No. A browser alarm runs inside the page, so closing the tab stops it, and a sleeping or suspended device stops running the page. Use your phone alarm app if the alarm has to wake you.
Why is there no sound when the alarm rings?
Browsers block audio on a page nobody has interacted with. Press the test sound button once and the tab is allowed to play; also check that the tab is not muted in the browser and that system volume is up.
Can I set an alarm for a time tomorrow?
Yes. A time that has already passed today is read as tomorrow, so setting 06:30 in the evening sets it for the next morning.
Will I get a notification as well as a sound?
Only if you turn notifications on and grant permission when the browser asks. The page does not request that permission until you switch the option on.
