Each page here counts to a single date and says which date that is. The count is whole days, the units below it carry the remainder, and every figure is derived from your device clock in your browser rather than from a server that may be in another time zone.

The dates themselves are held in a table that is reviewed before each year rather than guessed from a formula. Occasions that move — the ones tied to a lunar calendar, to a school term, or to a rule about which weekday they land on — carry a date for each year, and the page shows the date it is using so you can check it against your own calendar before relying on it.

Days until means the number of midnights between now and the date. That sounds obvious until two people compare answers: a count that rounds a part-day up and a count that does not will differ by one, and a count made in another time zone will differ by one for part of every day. These pages count midnights in your own zone and show the leftover hours and minutes separately, so the arithmetic is visible instead of implied.

The number changes overnight rather than at the time you first loaded the page, which is the behavior people expect from a calendar and not from a timer. Leaving a page open does not make it drift: the reading is recomputed from the clock, not accumulated from ticks, so a tab that spent the night in the background is right when you look at it in the morning.

The list covers the dates people search for most, which is a small fraction of the dates people actually count to. For anything else — a due date, a move, a flight, a contract end, a birthday — the countdown timer takes any date and time you type and shows the same days, hours, minutes and seconds.
